Gettin' Real: A Real Estate Blog

Many people say they don't really feel like an adult until they buy their first home. It is a huge step. Rather than letting a landlord make all important repairs, you take on this responsibility yourself. You also get to build equity in the home over time, which can be a rather smart investment. At the same time, buying your first home can be a little intimidating. You may have questions about applying for a mortgage, setting a budget, and shopping efficiently. We hope to answer those questions with our helpful content. Your real estate agent is a good source of information, and so is this blog.

Top Features That People Look For in a Home's Layout

As you begin your quest to buy a home, have you considered the features you want to find in the home? The layout of a home is a vital aspect of a home, and you may want to think about this before you begin shopping for a house. Here are some features to consider with the layout of a house that may help you know what you would like to find.

Open Concept

A lot of homes today have open concepts. The primary characteristic of an open concept home is an adjoining living room and kitchen. This concept allows you to stay more connected with your family or guests when you are all together.

Open concepts offer an easier way to stay together, but they also offer other benefits. One benefit is that an open concept makes the home look larger. In fact, it opens the house leaving you with more space than you would have if the rooms had more walls between them. Another benefit is that this setup gives you more space to use for your furniture.

Extra Room or Space

A second feature you might want to find in a home is extra room or space. Some people like finding homes with formal dining rooms. They can use this area for dining room purposes or in other ways. For example, you could use the area for an office or playroom for your kids.

Some houses come equipped with flex space, which is usually a small area in a home that you can use in many ways. Flex space is an area you get to define. You can use it as an office, toy room, reading area, or exercise room.

Eat-In Kitchen

One last feature you might want to find is an eat-in kitchen. More specifically, though, people want homes with islands and bar stools. It is nice finding a home where you can place a table in the kitchen, but it is also nice to have a home with an island. An island offers the ideal place to gather with your family or friends. An island also provides you with more storage space, as it usually has cabinets and drawers in it.

If you are interested in finding a house that has these characteristics or others that are not listed here, talk to a real estate agent. Let the agent know what features you are looking for in a house.
